Should we change our system of education?

Have you ever sat in class wondering, "WHEN WILL I EVER USE THIS?"

Believe it or not, teens have pondered this question for over fifty years.

With the rapid advances in technology and communications over the last decade, students today seem especially disillusioned with our current form of education.

To a large extent, this makes sense. Teens likely feel disillusioned with a system designed decades ago to prepare students of that era. Although good intentioned, this system of education catered to a completely different world than the one we see today.

The question on top of everyone's mind than may be, "Is our system of education preparing students to compete in a new global and hyper-competitive economy?"

Our world evolves rapidly, yet our system of education does not. How do we bridge the gap?

Education reformists are trying to solve this problem from a variety of angles (curriculum, policy, etc.). While I don't claim to know "the answer" to our nation's education concerns, the following video should provide some context to the concerns many of you probably have considered at some point, but were unable to articulate.

Please comment and discuss below. Share your feelings and any ideas you have that you feel should be considered. Who knows? Maybe ONE DAY you will be the one to change this stagnant system of education.
